Perhaps you are there now. You are thinking, "maybe I haven't used the word no enough recently." Fears and anxiety are growing.

"There are just too many projects on my plate. Every item is critically important. I feel needed. Addicted to success and the reputation I've built achieving it, all is going to come crashing down unless a miraculous solution appears now. It may even be too late to work this out."

Recognizing the problem and its inevitable consequences is actually the first important step in shaping a rescue from this perplexity.

1) What must the next step be?
2) What subsequent actions would you take to recover?
3) Finally what strategies will you employ to avoid succumbing again to the tantalizing high of thinking you have no limits and can do it all?

DAYTIMER OR OUTLOOK

Countless calendar, organizer and appointment tools exist to help today's manager. Some executives still like hardcopy diary/journal books to keep track of responsiblities. Others prefer electronic notebooks like the PALM Pilot or Black Berry phone systems. Some of these systems are synchronized with desktop or laptop computer software through USB cables or even Blue Tooth. Others may use internet based storage options which are virtually unlimited in space, such as Windows Live and Windows One Note.

What is your mechanism for storing and managing appointments and TO DO LISTS? Be specific, describing why it works for you.

"SWISS CHEESE"

Alan Lakein, the author of How to Get Control of Your Time and Your Life, recommended "SWISS CHEESE" to manage overwhelmingly large tasks. He explained further that one could poke holes in large tasks, by identifying smaller more manageable steps that could be taken to get started. Before you would know it a major portion of the, once overwhelming, task would be completed and the resulting momentum would propel one toward completion of the whole project.

1) What technique have you used that is similar to "SWISS CHEESE", and how did it work for you?

2) Share your successful experience using another strategy for handling extremely large tasks.

3) If you are currently faced with a large task and perplexed about how to handle it, share the problem here and someone might be able to help you.

CONQUERING THE PROCRASTINATION HABIT

Nearly everyone procrastinates about something.
